To The Wonder (2012) Film Review

My review of Terrence Malick’s astonishing 2012 film To The Wonder, an American masterpiece of image and emotion. A follow-up in spirit and look to his groundbreaking The Tree of Life, Malick’s newest will surely divide the bandwagoners from the devoted in its expanding American theatrical play. Starring – if that’s even the proper word – Ben Affleck as the paradigmatic American male, and Rachel McAdams and Olga Kurylenko as the two flighty women in his life, the film’s title belies the actual experience that accompanies witnessing the film. One of Malick’s most tender and beautiful films in his small (but growing, luckily) oeuvre, it is above all a magnificent work.
